Micro-Gods Incorporated: the Transition from Crime Dramas to Science Fiction
To make a sales pitch on some good crime dramas on television they include but not limited to Crossing Jordan, Cold Case, and Medium. In the case of Medium it's a cross between crime drama and occult thriller. It happens to be a good show with top notch acting and compelling storylines. However, to be critical of that show in one way, it's that the audience is left to believe that anyone who dies lingers in the physical realm as a ghost. Any time Medium kills someone off Allison Dubois ends up talking to the ghost. At least in the show Ghost Whisperer Melinda Gordon tells her ghosts to go into the light.
What Crossing Jordan, Cold Case, and Medium have in common is that the storylines are always original, the acting is top notch, and every episode has high quality script. Three good shows in production today are the FBI and Law and Order shows. However, in the case of FBI the episodes are always comprised of extensive action with invigorating soundtracks. Law and Order has a tightly knit pattern whereby the episode begins with the investigation and always ends up in the courtroom. What the FBI and Law and Order shows have in common is that the episodes can be difficult to distinguish from one another. In the case of crime dramas they've begun repeating themselves whereby the writers and producers are running out of ideas.
In the case of the movies there is an extensive number of productions with extended action scenes with very little script. It may be yet to show up on the radar for today's Chief Executive Officers but high quality script is essential to any production. It takes a lot away from the quality of the film or television show when the script is sparse and far apart.
However, groundbreaking opportunities are in the works, an entirely new market. The market in question would be science fiction. For example, the original Star Trek which lasted for three years always had original storylines, good acting, and introducing new cultures and civilizations. Twenty years later Star Trek the Next Generation which lasted for seven years followed by Deep Space Nine, and Voyager followed the same tradition. Those story arches went to the production of Picard and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds both of which can be streamed on Paramount Plus. Another available show on Paramount Plus would be Halo. An example of a show which very possibly outdid Star Trek in quality is Babylon 5. Such productions tend to be far more intricate than crime dramas. It's an optimal page in history for the science fiction genre to break free of the Star Trek story arch and the universe is an infinite resource for boundless brainstorming on new ideas for alien races, cultures, and civilizations with endless creativity is original script. There is no limit to how far into the future the writer can go.
To the attention of all science fiction artists, Micro-Gods incorporated in now the acting liaison between writers and the major networks as well as streaming services. All story arches can be routed to markcropsey134@gmail.com.
